Client Project :: Tara McMullin's 'Candid Confidence'

I have another fantastic client community project to share with you today.

Tara McMullin (formerly Gentile) is no stranger to the world of internet marketing, in fact I’ve been following her and learning from her for years! She now runs the What Works Network, a membership group where business owners share their experiences rather than giving advice (genius), and hosts the podcast of the same name.

I was utterly delighted to be invited onto her podcast earlier this year, and even more delighted when the day after our conversation Tara asked if she could hire me to help her with a community project.

It has been a joy to work with one of the smartest, savviest business women I know, and the project we’ve put together, Candid Confidence, is going to be amazing.

What’s it all about?

The Candid Confidence project consists of 8 interviews, 14 personal essays, and 22 days of candid conversation, all exploring the many ways entrepreneurs face their insecurities and level up in spite of them.

There’s a lot of talk out there about having the courage to start something new, but less about what happens when the call comes to level up in your business when you’re already established - how do you find the confidence to take the next step, or cope when excitement turns to fear? Sometimes the hardest thing isn’t the first step, but the next step.

In Tara’s own words:

"Any entrepreneur can suffer a crisis of confidence.⁣

It doesn't matter how polished you look on the outside. It doesn't matter how long you've been in business.⁣

It doesn't matter what kind of revenue you generate, how big your team is, what fancy events you go to, or how many glowing testimonials you have.⁣

Confidence comes and goes.⁣ And often, it goes when you need it most.⁣

Navigating insecurity and finding confidence when you need it is an incredibly important--and even strategic!--part of being a small business owner.⁣

It's not a touchy-feely nice-to-have.⁣

It's a brass tacks have-to-have.⁣

I'm thrilled to tell you that we're devoting the month of August to an extended conversation about confidence & entrepreneurship.⁣

It's called The Candid Confidence Project.”⁣

Exciting stuff!

⁣This is going to be such a powerful project - it's free to take part, and starts on Thursday August 1st. Head on over to Tara's site for all the details and to sign up.⁣

From conception to completion

Tara opted for my three-month Conception to Completion package as she wanted hands-on guidance throughout the process of creating her project to make it as impactful as it could possibly be. One of the things she’s appreciated most about the process is being forced to slow down and consider each detail carefully, instead of rushing through (with boundless enthusiasm) and forgetting things along the way!

Working with Tara has been amazing, and she’s given me some great ideas for new ideas and options to offer to my clients in the future - I’ve learned so much from her as well!

Here’s what Tara had to say:

When I first heard about this idea of a ‘community project’, I was dubious. It sounded an awful lot like an telesummit—which I’m on the record for calling bad marketing. So you can imagine that when I heard about someone organizing a bunch of people creating content around a theme and using it to grow an audience, I wasn’t impressed.

And then, I talked to Eli Trier.

I was so impressed with Eli’s approach and how it tied into our values and philosophy at What Works… that I actually hired her to help us with our first community project.
